About Myself
I am originally from Shelbyville, TN, and grew up on a farm. I started piano lessons at an early age, and quickly took up the flute as well. In middle school and high school I was very involved in drama and musicals, and really got a taste for singing at that time. I eventually also took up the Irish tin whistle, Irish flute, mandolin, and guitar. Growing up on a farm meant that you had to find your own entertainment, so I spent my time reading and learning new instruments. Toward the end of highschool I started dual enrollment courses at Motlow State, and joined the Jazz band as pianist there. I also participated in the drama program at Motlow while in high school. I soon started at MTSU in the music program, where I was involved in the choir, symphonic band, and flute choir. Shortly after moving to Murfreesboro, I was offered the opportunity to teach private music lessons at the Music & Arts store, which I have enjoyed doing ever since.
Even now I continue to teach private lessons as well as serve as the pianist for my church in Smyrna. I am also very active in the Irish traditional music scene in the area. I am trying build interest in the music, especially on the flute and tin whistle. It's often hard to find a lot of musicians playing this kind of music, and I try to offer the opportunity for learners of all ages to learn a little bit about this style of music. In the past years, I would even go to elementary schools to play Irish music for the students with my brother for St. Patrick's day.
